"What do you mean SEE?!" Alannah yelled. "I can SEE fine! I can see that don't want to be like my parents! I want to be like Grandma! I want to be a dragon rider! When I am, that'll show them! I don't want to spend my life doing nothing. I hate where I live! I can see fine, and I can see that...that"

Alannah's voice began to shake and she turned away from Jinx. It was cold as the sun set, but the large dragon smiled and pressed his warm body against the little girl whom had impressed him so much by giving up everything to follow a dream.

"Alannah, if you wish to be a dragon rider, you must pass a test of sight."

Alannah turned towards Jinx. "Then I will take the test."

"Take care Alannah, this is a dangerous test. I will protect you, but in order for me to do so you must submit yourself and trust me unconditionally. If you do not, you will not survive."

Jinx's voice had become low and serious, and Alannah nearly became frightened of the dragon, but she stepped up to him with her hands as fists.

"I don't care...I really want to be a dragon rider, Jinx. I want to take the test."

"Then climb upon my back, brave Alannah."
