Niflheim

Welcome to Niflheim, the version of hell which those in Norse and Germanic cultures believed. It is also referred to as “The House of Fog.”

This is the home of the wicked who are lorded over by Hel, the Mistress of the Dead. She is Loki’s daughter who was banished from Asgard for her parentage. She is a cruel woman, characterized by her half-blackened, half flesh appearance sporting a fierce grimace.

It is one of the Nine Worlds in Norse mythology which is an eternal freezing landscape of mist and ice according to medieval Christian Icelandic historian, Snorri Sturluson. It is known for its “bone-chilling cold.” The realm holds the Shore of Corpses where the serpent Nidhogg, drinks the blood and rips the flesh of the fallen and then eating the corpses of those left there.
